Playful endpapers set the scene for this story, showing a mailman hauling a giant dino egg wrapped in brown paper and marked fragile. Behind him is a sign shouting that eggs are on sale. A little boy looks surprised when he receives his huge parcel, but luckily this book is a guide to looking after the dinosaur that quickly hatches.
The pictures are bright and fun and filled wuth humour, often contradicting the text, which little readers will delight in pointing out. Like the dinosaur in this book, I’m sure most youngsters will have acted contrary to the story’s call for sharing and for “calm and quiet” at storytime.
After navigating the ups and downs of life with a new dinosaur, the back endpapers advertise a “buy one get one free” sale on dino eggs, keeping the story going right to the end of the book.
